if you have absolutly nothing, its a little much to start it. you need at least one server, a machine to build sites, and building software. IE dreamweaver, photoshop, and some others. DW is going to cost $399. Photoshop, you can find it for free but i think that if you want to buy it, its like $299. I am not sure about that. To start, you only really need two programs and you can build from there. To upload your sites, look for a uploading tool called FileZilla. thats free. Other than that, you should be good. I would say, including all your hardware and a cash cushion, $2500-3500

Lucky: The truth is you don't absolutely need to buy any of those things. It can all be farmed out to bigger companies that "host the host". This will make your life easier in many way and reduce your start-up expenses to just a few hundred dollars.
On the other hand, based on the way you asked your question it sounds like you may not yet be prepared for the task at hand. I recommend you study time management as it relates to server operations, or hire a company that can handle that for you (like mine, frankly)
Good luck . . .

I do not think it is wise to invest that much in web hosting. I am sure all you are interested is to make money/profit.
I do not know whether you would be interested for a reseller program, but if you are, It is the best to start with especially because of competition. You can imagine companies are offering as much as $125 for 1 web hosting client. It might be very difficult for you to sell web hosting space today.
Try selling other companies products through the web hosting re-seller program which allows you to set your preferred rates per month. You are charged about $24 every month and that cover web hosting space, support and anything else you require. If you are able to get clients using the reseller program, you can then start your own web hosting company..
